Monday I was on outpost guard all day. Monday night parts of K & I companies went out & were out all night. They gathered up 83 men, 2 shot guns and a lot of bolos but most of the men were turned loose again. Yesterday I laid around this town (Santa Anna [Ana]) all day and today I am on old guard fatigue. I went to the band concert in front of the church tonight: the native band of 3 horns, a piccolo, a clarinet, 4 violins & a base viol gave us some fine music. I smoked my first cigarette for over 4½ years & do not mean to smoke another for a longer time than that.
