Relieved at Pasay on morning of 10th, by Troop of 4th Cavy – marched to Malate Bks and on 11th marched to San Fernando Police Station and relieved Tillson’s Co. of 14th, the two Battalions of that Reg’t. being ordered to China. The duties here are disagreeable and hard on both officers and men, but will do the best we know how. Lt. Leonori joined from Civil life [on] May 27th and he is a most excellent fellow and of growing assistance to me. Lt. Haskell left me about May 10th for detached service but has been in the Hospital almost the whole time since then.
