Left at 10.15 P.M. Jan. 1st with command of 100 men under Capt. Brown, 1st Cav. for Boot where rebels were said to be again assembled in force. Returned 4 P.M. on 4th without having seen an insurrecto. Hard march – covered 62 miles. Pvt. Glennen of my Company wandered from command about 4 a.m. Jan 2d. and has neither been seen nor heard from since then.
