Paterno’s long edict on autonomy (published on 4 July) has been forwarded to Cavite with a correction on a capital point by some revolutionary leaders. Paterno was saying one of the matters for discussion by the Assembly would be freedom of worship. It seems they have answered no change is to be effected on this matter, for Catholic unity is strong in the Philippines. This confirms that other news about the bad effect on some leaders of the civil matrimony instituted by Aguinaldo in his decrees of 20 July.
