It is five months today that Coné has been taken prisoner, and it seems like five years. We are in hopes that he will be released soon by the Army when they take Iloilo. They are harassing the Japanese in Iloilo and Jaro and expect to take both places before November 15. The Army has been successful so far in spite of the lack of arms.

I am sitting outside of our nipa house and I can see a big fire in the direction of Jaro, and far off we can hear the booming of a cannon. I am wondering if they are now fighting in Iloilo.

Last year at this time we were preparing for our Halloween party, and many of the people, Americans and Filipinos alike, who attended the party have been killed.
